Game Radar App

Game Radar App

Overview

This was the final project for our interactive design class. We were tasked with getting into a group to think of an idea for an app. Then, after fleshing out what this app does and who it's for we split up to design it however we saw fit.

We chose to do a community-based video game rating application for our group. If you are familiar with Letterbox, it's that instead of movies, it would be video game titles.

Stage 1 - Ideation

This was the stage where our group thought of the idea and then made a super rough walk-through of the features this app would bring. We also created a user persona better understanding of who this app would be for. You can view the video here.

Stage 2 - Wireframe

In this stage, we split making the wireframe of our previous ideal of the app. Here is a video of me going through a user persona that might interact with the app. See here.

Stage 3 - Sketches and More Ideation

After coming together as a class and doing a class critique of each group we came together to establish what we wanted this app to do. We identified who our users were and created goals for them. We also did a microscope expertise to identify who this app was for and what things we didn't want this app to be/perceived.

USERS:

  1. Gamers

  2. Game Influencers (YouTube)

  3. People who research what they buy before they buy it

  4. Esports Athletes

  5. Parents/people who buy games for others

GOALS:

  1. Express opinions about games, Find new games, See what others say about the latest games

  2. Find Gameplay and screenshots of games, Find Content creators who review games

  3. Find communities within the games play, find the latest games

WHO WE ARE:

  • Gamers

  • Geeks

  • Modern

  • User Friendly

  • Robust

  • Up to date

WHO WE AREN’T:

  • Slow

  • Old Fashion

  • Outdated

  • Boring

  • Clunky

Stage 4 - Rough Comp

After all of that, we finally got to designing the application. I chose a purple aesthetic and tried to make it look sleek and modern.

Final

After another group and class critique of our rough draft designs, I went back to the drawing board and made these designs for the App. Another part of the project was to create an animation for the logo of one of the websites I created this semester and I did Game Rader. So here are the Adobe After Effects animations I did.

Reflection

After completing this project, I felt pretty good about what I accomplished throughout the semester. I started out having no idea how to design anything for the web or mobile, and now I feel comfortable with the process, able to be a contributing member of a team. I still have a long way to go in the design world to create something that looks very professional, but after this experience, I have a good idea of what that might look like and could make something better with my perspective. I also gained another technical skill in this class, learning Adobe XD and After Effects.
